Fareha Nishat

PhD Student

Fareha Nishat is a PhD candidate in Epidemiology at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, supervised by Dr. Hilary Brown. She holds an MPH in Epidemiology and an HBSc in Neuroscience and Mental Health from the University of Toronto. Her research interests include chronic disease epidemiology and health inequities in child and adolescent health. Specifically, her thesis examines the intersection of disability and chronic disease among children, adolescents, and young adults using population-based health administrative data from Ontario to generate evidence that supports more equitable health outcomes for young people. Fareha holds a Canadian Institutes of Health Research Doctoral Award.

To ensure her research reflects the voices of young people, Fareha is creating a Youth Advisory Committee of youth aged 15–24 with disabilities. Advisors will share their perspectives on disability and health, guide how research findings are shared, and co-create a Digital Knowledge Hub featuring plain-language summaries and youth-created stories through art, writing, video, or photography.
